About the Parliamentary Internship Program

The Ukrainian Canadian community wants to continue to play a significant role in shaping Canada’s political landscape and policies for decades to come. The UCC Charitable & Education Trust has established a paid internship program in Ottawa with Members of Parliament, where interns work on policy research, communications, legislative affairs and constituency work, and learn firsthand about Canada’s Parliament and all aspects of the legislative and governmental process.

The Parliamentary Internship Program was re-established in 2017 by the UCC Charitable & Education Trust, thanks to the generous support of the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada, including training by the Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership, and many individual donors.

The renewal of the Parliamentary Internship Program by the UCC Charitable & Educational Trust was made possible through the generous support of major donors, including the Shevchenko Foundation Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Fund, the Ukrainian National Federation and the Ukrainian Credit Union Ltd. We also sincerely thank and recognize the generous support of Paul & Adrianna Grod, Oleh & Bozhena Iwanusiw and many other individual donors. For the full list of supporters of the Parliamentary Internship Program, please see here.

“Reflecting on the last 10 months, I have learned a lot about the political process in Canada and how Parliament works. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and donors for the invaluable opportunities that this internship has provided me with.”

“My experience with the UCC parliamentary internship has been incredible. Not only did I learn a tremendous amount about our country’s political landscape, I was also given the opportunity to provide my own ideas and research to shape policy. Furthermore, the experience and the connections I gained through this internship have allowed me to find a full-time position with the federal government. I would highly recommend this program to others who are still in the process of developing their career path. Thank you!”

“The UCC Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for all Ukrainian youth – for those who were born in Canada and for others who immigrated here. I am happy to work in politics – the sphere of my education and interest for more than 10 years. After two months of internship I was hired by a Member of Parliament”
