1. Russian Invasion of Ukraine
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported at 12:30 PM Kyiv time that in the last 24 hours, no Ukrainian soldiers were killed or wounded in action. In the last 24 hours, Russian-terrorist forces opened fire on Ukrainian positions on the Luhansk and Donetsk sectors of the front 20 times in total. Returning fire, Ukrainian forces wounded 2 enemy combatants in the last 24 hours.
2. US transfers two counter-battery radar systems to Ukraine’s Armed Forces

On August 17, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported, “Chief of General Staff General of the Army of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko thanked both the US government and the American people for the military technical assistance and delivery of two counter-battery radar systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The transfer ceremony occurred Friday, August 17, and included the participation of the US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. On behalf of the Ukrainians, General Muzhenko expressed his gratitude for the delivered radars, ‘I would like to thank you, the US government and the Americans for the delivered military equipment, which will help us to fight against the aggressor and save a lot of lives.’
According to General Muzhenko, US technical assistance in equipping the Ukrainian army with modern materiel, as well as personnel training for its maintenance and repair, serves as a critical component of the military transformation process.”
3. Ukraine’s President speaks with German Chancellor
Ukraine’s Presidential Administration reported, “President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a phone conversation with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. The Federal Chancellor briefed on the results of talks with the President of Russia held in Germany recently.
The Head of State urged to intensify efforts to free Ukrainian hostages illegally kept in Russia and the occupied territories.
Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel agreed to continue consultations at the level of foreign ministers of the Normandy format regarding the UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied part of the Donbas.
The parties discussed a number of issues of the bilateral agenda and agreed to continue contacts at the highest level.”
