Statement by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress on the death of the Leader of the Opposition, Jack Layton

KYIV, UKRAINE – August 22, 2011-Ukrainian Canadian Congress National President Paul Grod made the following statement today on learning of the death of NDP Leader Jack Layton:
On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian community, I would like to offer sincere condolences to Olivia Chow and the Layton family on the passing of Jack Layton.
He was a friend of the Ukrainian Canadian community for many years, having supported democracy in Ukraine, recognition of Holodomor, and Internment.
On behalf of the Board of directors, our member organizations, and the Ukrainian Canadian community I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to Olivia Chow and their family.
May his memory be eternal. Vich’naya pam’yat.
